Frequently asked questions

What do I need to play?

An iPhone running iOS 18 or later, an Apple Account (you sign in with Apple), and a data connection. Everyone in the game needs the app.

How do I join a game?
  1. Ask the host for the six-character invite code, or open the invite link they send you.
  2. Install The Side Quest and sign in with Apple.
  3. Tap Join with Code and enter the code.
  4. Pick or create a team and tap Ready.

If you opened an invite link on your phone, the invite page can show the code and open the app for you. Games hold up to 8 players, and late joining closes shortly after the first day starts.

How does scoring work?

Public cards. Three cards sit on a shared board and every one is a race. Tap Start, complete the challenge, and submit your proof. The first team whose proof is accepted claims the points and any Quest Coins, and the empty slot refills. For photo proof, players on the other teams review it and a majority decides.

Giving up. If your team fails a card you're locked out of it, and some cards cost a few points. Every fail makes the reward bigger for the other teams: 25% of the base points each time, up to double.

Private cards. Each player holds up to three secret cards. Complete one on your own and send the proof to your teammate to confirm. The points go to your team. You can veto a private card for a small point cost.

Winning. Most points when the game ends. Ties go to the team that completed more cards, then to the team that earned more Quest Coins. The host can adjust scores and end the game.

What are Quest Coins?

A bonus currency awarded by some cards. Points decide the winner; Quest Coins are the second tie-breaker. Where the in-game shop is available, you can spend them on power-ups and playful curses.

Do I need a signal? What about airplanes?

Yes. The Side Quest needs an internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data) to sync the board, scores, and photos, and it isn't supported on airplanes. If you lose signal for a moment, find a spot with coverage and try again; a photo that didn't upload can be sent again. Don't count on the app in places with no coverage.

Who can see my photos?

Only the players who review that proof: the other teams for a public card, your teammate for a private one. There is no public feed. Photos are deleted 7 days after the game ends. The full details are in the Privacy Policy.

How do I report or block someone?

Every photo you're asked to review has options to report the content or block the player, and you can find the same tools in Settings. Reports go to us, and we may remove content or players who break the Terms of Use. You can also email contact@mobileside.quest with the game name and what happened.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, go to Settings, then Delete Account. If you can't get into the app, email us. Step-by-step instructions and exactly what gets deleted are on the Delete your account page.

Is it free?

Joining a game is free. Creating a game as host is unlocked with a one-time purchase in the app, handled by Apple.

The host lost their phone or left. Can someone else take over?

Yes. The host can transfer hosting to another player from the host tools. If the host can't do that, email us and we'll help.
